The "Poynette...Naturally" motto describes the recreational and lifestyle options available in Poynette. Located in the rolling glacial hills just south of the Baraboo range and the Old Military Highway connecting forts at Green Bay and Prairie du Chein, Poynette residents enjoy a picturesque setting. Lake Wisconsin (3 miles away), Devil's Lake, and numerous small lakes enhance year-round recreational actitity. Wisconsin's #2 trout stream, Rowan Creek, bisects two parks in downtown Poynette.

Less than 2 miles away is the MacKenzie Environmental Center which a natural prairie, hiking trails, an animal park and a facility for environmental education. With the recent addition of a Golf Course and Club House, Poynette is a four season recreation area with all seasons providing a wealth of activities.

Poynette offers a perfect balance of rural living with the benefits of a full service community. Poynette's Industrial Development Corporation as well as the Columbia County Economic Develpment Corporaton (CCEDC) strive to attract new employers to the community and assist current employers in maintaining a quality work force and an excellent relationship with the population. Naturally Poynette and it's citizens wish to preserve the high quality of life in the community, as well as the area's natural resources. The local government of Poynette is progressive and has addressed the future with sound planning for the well-being of the environment.

The Village covers approximately 774 acres of land, and had a 2005 State Estimate population of 2,520.
